The Friday Harbor Wolverines volleyball team fell 3-1 in its only regular-season bout against Division 1A regional rival Meridian, Oct. 2 in Turnbull Gym.
The Wolverines clinched a game midway through the match to keep their hopes of an upset alive, but the Trojans, who improved to 4-2, rallied to seal the victory in four games. With the loss, the Wolverines dropped their fourth consecutive match and fell to 1-3 in Northwest 1A/2B League play and 1-5 overall.

The Wolverines saved their best for last in their first outing of the season against Division 2B powerhouse La Conner. But the Braves, a perennial 2B playoff team, broke open what had been a seesaw battle midway in the third game and then outpaced the home team down the stretch to seal the match in three straight, in Turnbull Gym.
The Wolverines fell 25-13, 25-9, 25-17 as La Conner tallied a sweep.

Friday Harbor had the Vikings on the ropes in an interisland showdown on the road, but couldn’t land a knock-out punch in a 3-1 loss at Orcas.
The Wolverines, trailing 2-0 after dropping the first two games, each by a score of 25-21, prevailed 25-22 in the third game of the match to draw within striking distance. The Vikings rallied to clinch the victory by taking the fourth game by a score of 25-21 as well.
Next: The Wolverines hosted Mount Vernon Christian Oct. 5. They travel to Darrington on Oct. 7 and Nooksack Valley on Oct. 9.
