The Wolverine volleyball team had a thrilling game Thursday, Sept. 29, winning against Concrete in three straight sets.
“Every single person on the team made great contributions,” coach Nadine Varsovia said.
Junior, outside hitter, Esme Smith, was a huge contributor for the Wolverines and scored multiple points with her hitting ability and her laser fast serves. Meanwhile, senior setter Mia Blackmon got on a 10-point serving run and finished out the second set. “Her serves were undetectable by the other team,” Varsovia said. The second set had nailbiting moments, with Concrete holding their own. The Wolverines, however, came back every time bringing the attendees to their feet.
Senior Ayana Berube helped to keep the Wolverines together and grounded throughout. She served as a triple threat with her consistent serving, passing, and hitting. “She didn’t miss a beat,” Varsovia said enthusiastically. Sarah Cruzrecently, who became the team’s varsity libero, stayed strong and held her ground when the going got tough and earned her crown as queen of the back row.
The final score was 3-0.
Cheer them on during the next home game in the Turnbull gym, Oct. 4 at 4:30 p.m., where the girls will take on Coupeville.
