Four players advanced as the Wolverines made the most out of home court advantage and nearly ran the tables at the District 1 playoff Saturday in Friday Harbor.
In an all-Friday Harbor final, freshman Rebecca Leff outlasted senior Charlotte Guard in a three-set thriller to claim the No. 1 district singles’ seed at the upcoming Quad-District playoffs.
Leff took the first set 6-3, dropped the second 4-6 and blew out her elder teammate by a score of 6-0 to claim the third and final set, and the match.
In second-round play, Guard earned a shot at the district’s top slot thanks to a straight-set upset of Coupeville’s Ashley Sanders, 7-5, 6-2.
In doubles, Jenny Dunn and Hannah Snow breezed by Darrington’s Ally White and Hailey Wales 6-3, 6-0 to earn a second-consecutive trip to Quad-District. In the final, Coupeville’s Hannah Merrill and Megan Monroe defeated Snow and Dunn 6-2, 6-4 to claim first place.
