The Friday Harbor boys basketball avenged an aggravating season-opening loss and collected its first league win with a 68-38 runaway victory at home, Tuesday, over Concrete.

The Wolverines jumped out to an early lead and had firm control of their Northwest 1A/2B League opener before the break, outscoring the Lions 54-14 in the opening half.

“It was quite a turnaround from the other night,” senior point guard Dakota Rosales said of Tuesday’s blowout. “We were leading the entire game against South Whidbey. We should’ve won that game.”

With the win, the Wolverines evened their record at 1-1 overall, and are on the road for back-to-back league match ups beginning Saturday, at Orcas, followed by a trip to Darrington on Tuesday.

The Wolverines, capitalizing on a size advantage in the paint, lit up the scoreboard with 29 first-period points and added 25 more in the second quarter. Junior low-post player Collin Williamson tallied 16 points to lead the Wolverines, while sophomore C.J. Woods added 14, including two buckets from beyond the three-point arc, and fellow sophomore Otis Cooper-West contributed 10.

Friday Harbor held the Lions to just 20 points over the first three quarters of play.

Concrete scored nearly half of its game total of 38 points in the final period, with the Wolverines’ starters watching from the bench and their backups on the court. Concrete guard Tyler Clark, a senior who a year ago was the state’s most prolific score, averaging 31.8 points per game, scored a game-high 28 points, most of which came in the final period.
