With a seven-game win streak and a No. 7 ranking in the latest Washington State Baseball Coaches poll in tow, the Friday Harbor baseball team will open post-season play at home today, May 1, against regional 1A rival Blaine.
Game time is 4:45 p.m., at Hartman Field.
The Wolverines, winners of their last seven games, including a Northwest 1A/2B League title-clinching 20-0 shutout over Orcas at home April 29, enter the District 1A playoffs as the No. 1 seed of eight teams competing for four slots in the Tri-District tournament.
With victories over Mount Baker, an 8-6 win on the road April 27, and at home against Meridian April 25, 6-3, Friday Harbor improved to 3-2 in regional 1A competition and notched a win-loss record of 15-3 in regular-season play overall. The Wolverines are also ranked No. 7 in the latest Washington State Baseball Coaches poll; www.washingtonbaseballpoll.com
In today’s Northwest 1A District opening round matchup, Friday Harbor will be looking to advance into the winner’s bracket and also to settle a score with the Borderites, who, back on March 27, defeated the Wolverines at home by a score of 3-2.
