The Friday Harbor girls’ basketball team, the Wolverines, went up against the Darrington Loggers on Friday, Jan. 19. The Wolverines took the lead in the beginning of the game, but the Loggers kept close behind. The overall score at the end of the first quarter was 10-9. By half time, the Loggers caught up to tie with the Wolverines, 16-16.
Within seconds after the start of the third quarter, the Wolverines scored two baskets in a row. The Wolverines brought tough defense against the Loggers, and the score going into the fourth quarter was 30-18.
The Loggers managed to sink a few baskets nearing the end of the game, but it was not enough to overtake the Wolverines, who won 40-30. This is the Wolverines second win against the Loggers. They battled on Dec. 20 with an outcome of 39-20.
There are three remaining games for the girls this season. They go up against LaConner on their home court this Friday, January 26.
They take on Orcas again on Tuesday, Jan. 30, and their final game is against Concrete at home on Friday, Feb. 2.
