The Friday Harbor High School Wolverines battled the Orcas Island High School Vikings in a doubleheader on Friday, Jan. 18.
Traveling to the neighboring island, the boys team faced off first. The stands were filled with nearly as many Wolverines fans cheering on their teams as the hometown Vikings.
The Wolverines had the ball for most of the game, winning 70 to 38. Fouls abounded and a bloody nose occurred in four quarters of high-energy play.
The girls game was a bit tighter with the girls winning 37 to 31. The girls were rough-and-tumble, fighting hard for the ball and falling to the ground several times while doing so.
The Wolverines take on Concrete at home on Tuesday, Jan. 22. The girls play at 4 p.m. and the boys play at 5:30 p.m. in Turnbull Gym.
The teams will then travel to face the Mount Vernon Christian Hurricanes. The girls play first at 4 p.m. followed by the boys at 5:30 p.m. in FHHS’ Turnbull Gym.
