You might blame it on the figgy pudding.

But Coach Eric Jangard points out that Friday Harbor’s 60-29 loss at Mount Baker had more to do instead with the home team’s tenacious full court press and its talented corps of five senior starters.

The 29 turnovers didn’t help matters much, he noted.

“They pressed us the entire game and that gave us a little trouble,” Jangard said. “It wasn’t our best performance but we’re fine. We’re moving on. We took it as an opportunity to get better.”

The Mountaineers (7-2) took control of the contest in the second period and sealed the Dec. 27 non-conference contest with even more defense down the stretch.

Point guard Mandy Turnbull tallied nine points to pace the Friday Harbor offense and fellow seniors Larissa Nash and Liz Taylor scored eight points apiece.

The Wolverines (6-2) face Shoreline Christian on the road Jan. 3, 3:30 p.m., and host Cedar Park Christian Jan. 6, at 7:30 p.m., followed by Merdian Jan. 7; tip off is noon.
