The Friday Harbor softball team went up against Orcas on Monday, May 1, in a doubleheader on their home field on San Juan Island. Game 1 began at 12:45 p.m., and Game 2 started at 2:45 p.m. The lady Wolverines were able to keep ahead of the Vikings, winning both games.
The Viking batters struggled against Wolverine pitchers Siri Lindstrum and Grace Pauls, juniors, and Marella Kirkland, sophomore. At the bottom of the fifth inning the score was 6-1.
Things got dicey for the Wolverines at the top of the sixth, however, as the Vikings were able to score four runs. Friday Harbor fought hard to get some more points on the board with senior Savanna Hoffman stealing third and almost making it home. Hoffman was left stranded, however, as the sixth inning came to a close. The Vikings had one more chance to pull ahead, but the lady Wolverines were able to get three outs right in a row. The final score was 6-5.
The second game was a shutout by pitchers Kirkland, Pauls and freshman Raylee Minken. The final score was 15-0.
Friday Harbor beat LaConner on Friday, May 4, 17-7. The team lost to Ocosta, 12-2, on Saturday, May 5. The league website still says they have nine league wins.
