The Friday Harbor High School varsity volleyball team lost 3-0 in a home match against La Conner Oct. 12.
Varsity volleyball coach Nadine Varsovia said of their loss, “Playing La Conner in volleyball has historically been very intimidating for Friday Harbor as they have taken first in state multiple years in a row.”
Varsovia went on to explain that this intimidation can wreak havoc on the energy of the team. However, she said that while the score may not reflect it, they have grown exponentially compared to the last time they played La Conner at an away game in their gym.
“We had a solid double block by Mia Blackmon and Natalie Morton in the front row against La Conner’s outside hitter. In addition, we got a few kills by our sophomore outsider hitter, Esme Smith, a newcomer to Friday Harbor who brings her previous volleyball experience to the program,” she said.
Varsovia would like to thank seniors and captains Ella Mason and Olivia Germain for leading the team with their positive attitude.
