The Wolverines completed the regular season on the road Monday, beating Concrete 5-0.
The Wolverines (9-1 league, 10-5 overall) play today in the district tournament in Coupeville. The tri-district tournament begins Nov. 5.
Monday, the first half repeated the script of adequate but unfocused play. Still, the girls were dominant enough to lead 2-0 on two Whitney Porter goals. The first few minutes of the second half were rather chaotic, but with Porter’s third goal the team found its stride and never looked back.
Porter then went on yet another breakaway, selflessly distributing to debuting freshman Fei Cooper whose fine shot was unlucky enough to strike the post. The rebound justly returned to Porter, whose finish set a new school standard of 22 goals in a season.
Larissa Nash’s booming strike completed the scoring. This allowed all the remaining JV players the opportunity to enter the game. The defense held strong to preserve keeper Rhianna Franklin’s first shutout.

Seattle Christian 5
Friday Harbor 0
The Wolverines traveled to Seattle Christian to face off against the 2006 state champions and 2007 semi-finalists.
They were awed by their opponent’s ability by the half.
Seattle Christian is a skilled and disciplined side that has played at a high level for many years. “But our girls adapted and played a spirited and level final 35 minutes,” Friday Harbor Coach Mark Fishaut reported.
Sophomore Hannah Starr’s move up to center mid, complemented by Larissa Nash’s change to stopper, ignited the team. Although no goals were scored, none were yielded.
“Mickey Leytze finally found her inner demon and played a delightfully aggressive shift,” Fishaut said. “Alex Freeman’s move to midfield will serve her well in the future.”

Mount Vernon Christian 2
Friday Harbor 1
Mount Vernon Christian gave the Wolverines a post-title clinch letdown, 2-1.
Mount Vernon scored early in the first half and led 1-0 at the interval. Hannah Starr tied it with a long strike early in the second half, but a late free kick decided the match.
Fine play was displayed by keeper Rhianna Franklin, returning striker Shelby Ness, and midfielders Megan Goudie and Alex Freeman.
