Saturday, the Friday Harbor Wolverines defeated Nooksack Valley 2-0 at Nooksack to tighten their grip on the league lead. The Wolverines are now 6-2 overall and undefeated in league.
The Seattle Lutheran Saints drew first blood, and they were last to draw it too. But in between, Friday Harbor tallied 35 unanswered points and coasted to a victory Saturday at home that wasn’t even as close as the 35-15 final score might suggest.
Friday Harbor is now 4-0 in the Northwest 1A/2B League after beating Mount Vernon Christian 3-1 at home, Tuesday. After their inspired play against Meridian the prior Saturday, the team came out a bit flat and allowed their opponents to control play for much of the first 20 minutes. Still, no goal was yielded and, as the Wolverines stepped up their play, they were rewarded by goals from Whitney Porter (unassisted) and from Ingrid Carlson (assisted by Shelby Ness).
The Friday Harbor Wolverines had a dramatic come-from-behind win over Orcas Sept. 23 to improve to 3-2 and take the lead in the Northwest 1A/2B League. It’s a tenuous lead, however, but more about that later.
The Friday Harbor football team jumped out to a quick start Saturday on the road at Nooksack Valley. Thanks to a fumble recovery deep in Pioneer territory, the Wolverines grabbed a 7-0 lead when quarterback Michael Ausilio and tailback Eddie Nash hooked up on a 14-yard touchdown pass early in the first period. But that’s about the time the flags really started to fly.
Most families are likely busy with the current soccer or football seasons, but now is the time to register for Island Rec’s Boys Basketball League.
The Friday Harbor Wolverines notched their third consecutive tennis win Sept. 23, obtaining a 3-2 victory at home Tuesday over Lake Stevens. The Wolverines lost to Coupeville on the road Thursday. Their record is now 3-1.
There’s no place like home. A road-weary Friday Harbor volleyball team claimed its first match of the season with a three-game sweep at home Sept. 25 over Mount Vernon Christian. With the victory, the Wolverines put an end to a string of four straight losses, all of which came on the road, and cashed in big on their first match at home.
Chalk this one up to depth. The Friday Harbor tennis team notched their third consecutive win and remains undefeated thanks to the performance of a patchwork lineup and a 3-2 victory at home Tuesday over Lake Stevens.
Beating up on B league opponents won’t get the Friday Harbor football team where it would like to be by the end of the regular season.
But the Wolverines have made the most out of the opportunity just the same.
The Friday Harbor Wolverines lost to the Orcas Vikings 3-2 over the weekend at the Lopez Tournament. But the Vikings got a taste of the Wolverine resilience they could expect today during a rematch, at Orcas High School. Both teams have seasoned veterans and displayed an intimidating degree of aggression at the front of the net.
