The Friday Harbor Wolverines were defeated by Lynden Christian in overtime 23-20, Friday at Lynden Christian. Lyncs senior Reid Bode propelled his team to victory with a 27-yard field goal.
Friday Harbor, now 3-3, led the game early on. In the first quarter, Brett Paul kicked a 32-yard field goal to put the Wolverines on the board and Forrest Dayton scored a touchdown on a long pass from Tanner Buck. The Wolverines ended the quarter leading 10-0.
In the second quarter, Lynden Christian’s Drew Vander Meulen took a pass from Daniel Ten Broek 33 yards into the end zone, but the Lyncs missed the extra point kick. Friday Harbor’s Paul solidified the Wolverines’ lead with a 33-yard field goal. Score: Wolverines 13, Lyncs 6.
In the third quarter, the Lyncs defense kept the Wolverines scoreless and tied the game when Ten Broek and Jacob Knibbe connected on an eight-yard TD pass, and an extra-point kick by Bode. Score: Wolverines 13, Lyncs 13.
In the fourth quarter, Friday Harbor’s Justin James scored on a four-yard run, followed by an extra-point kick by Paul. Lynden Christian’s Derek Feddema scored on a short run with 1 minute 5 seconds left, and Bode kicked in the extra point to keep the game tied and send it into overtime. Bode’s 27-yard field goal in OT ended the game.
