Another title. Another trophy. Another championship T-shirt.

Can anyone out there dethrone Island Towing?

The A Division powerhouse rebounded from an early-season loss and tallied five consecutive victories to claim its fourth-straight crown in the upper division of the Island Rec Co-ed Softball League.

Island Towing finished the season at 7-1, its only blemish a 14-9 loss to the Mudsharks in the second week.

The Mudsharks took second with a 6-2 record.

Team captain Molly Finch doesn’t expect Island Towing’s reign at the top can last indefinitely, and dangled a carrot out in front of its A League counterparts.

“At some point I’m sure somebody’s going to knock us off,” she said. “We’re getting older.”

But for now, Island Towing remains the team to beat in A League.

In B Division, San Juan Propane took its first title by beating nearly every opponent on its eight-game schedule. The “Tanks” tallied seven wins while surviving several closely-contested games en route to the lower division crown.

San Juan Propane’s only loss came at the hands of Rocky Bay Cafe, a 7-4 decision in mid-season. The Lucky Strikes, at 5-2, finished in second place for the second season in a row.

San Juan Propane slugger Richard Pederson credits team chemistry for fueling the Tanks’ rise to the top.

“Nobody argued about playing time or about what position they played,” Pederson said. “We just had real camaraderie out there all season long.”

Normally, the B Division champ earns an automatic berth in the upper league. But Pederson said the Tanks will be weighing options and considering what competing with the A leaguers might mean.

“We play in B League for a reason,” he said.
