San Juan Island Fitness and Aquatics “Orcas” hosted the South Whidbey Island Stingrays for a swim meet on Saturday, Jan. 18. Over 60 swimmers ages 7 – 17 took part in the competition held at the fitness club pool in Friday Harbor.
Multiple Friday Harbor swimmers took top honors in their respective strokes. Of special note were Sixteen-year-old Timmy Mountford taking first place in 50 yards. Backstroke and Freestyle while ten-year-old Maxine Early was best in all three of her races; the 50 yds. Butterfly, Backstroke and Freestyle. Also making some waves was eight-year-old Piper Reimer winning both the 25 yds Butterfly and Breaststroke and her brother ten-year-old Caysen Reimer taking the 50 yards Butterfly and Freestyle events.
Coach and Fitness club owner Paul Hopkins said, “This was one of the most competitive meets we have hosted in a while. With all the swimmers turning in fast times.”
The swimmers are winding up their season on Saturday, Feb. 4 at the Fidalgo Pool and Fitness Center with a meet against Marysville and the Thunderbirds of Anacortes and a team party and awards ceremony on the 11.
