The Friday Harbor Wolverines won against the Lopez Lobos when the boys soccer teams went head to head on Oct. 23 at the Linde fields in Friday Harbor.
“Overall it was a great team win with several players contributing to the outcome,” said Andy Duke, coach, adding that the team also benefited from the return of Julian Brown, after his extended absence due to an injury.
During the first half of the game, the Wolverines junior midfielder Luke Erickson and senior midfielder Miles Williamson each made a goal. Lopez tried to fight back but the Wolverines’ strong defense prevented them from scoring.
“Lopez played well and with heart,” said Duke, adding that the Wolverines’ defense had their seventh shutout of the season.
“Our keeper Jack Knapik made two quality saves to preserve the shutout,” Duke continued.
Senior midforward Yadir Plaza made one more goal for Friday Harbor in the second half of the game. The final score was 3-0.
