Friday Harbor notches first win of the season with 17-0 rout over Darrington | Baseball

The Wolverines needed just four innings to turn a cakewalk into a rout and notch win No. 1 of the season with a 17-0 victory over Darrington, Tuesday at home. Up 5-0 after three innings, Friday Harbor put the game out of reach in the fourth inning as the team batted around the order and turned two walks, three errors and seven base hits into a 12-run barrage.

The Wolverines needed just four innings to turn a cakewalk into a rout and notch win No. 1 of the season with a 17-0 victory over Darrington, Tuesday at home.

Up 5-0 after three innings, Friday Harbor put the game out of reach in the fourth inning as the team batted around the order and turned two walks, three errors and seven base hits into a 12-run barrage. Senior Sasha Moghadam stroked a double to drive in three runs and junior Alex Jangard followed with an RBI double to highlight the fourth-inning fireworks.

On the mound, junior Shawn Cutting held an overmatched Loggers’ squad scoreless over four innings, and Jangard sealed the win by retiring the first three batters he faced, including two strikeouts, in the fifth and final inning.

Friday Harbor (1-1) got on the winning track with its runaway win over Darrington. But competition should prove much tougher Wednesday when the Wolverines host Division 2A South Whidbey (2-0) which tallied a total of 24 runs in sweeping its season-opening double header against Cascade Conference rival Sultan, also a 2A team.

Game time is 4 p.m. at Hartman Field.
