It’s been a season of surprises for Wolverines Head Coach Kevin Carlton.

And Friday’s doubleheader at Darrington proved no exception.

The Wolverines jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but the offense did a disappearing act after that. The Loggers rallied and Friday Harbor trailed 3-2 going into the sixth inning.

“They gave me a scare,” Carlton said of the Wolverines, who needed seven innings and a wake-up call to notch a come-from-behind 13-5 win. “It’s the first time I’ve ever gone seven innings at Darrington in 10 years.”

Freshman Jean Melborne tossed a five-inning shutout as Friday Harbor took a commanding lead in the nightcap and cruised to a 12-0 win.

The Wolverines improved to 8-3 in Northwest 1A/2B League play and 12-5 overall, and can grab a share of a possible three-way tie for the league title with a victory on the road today at Orcas.
