If former Friday Harbor Wolverine Hannah Hopkins performs in the press box just half as good as she did in the gym and on the diamond, earning 10 letters in three sports, Hopkins might want to change her major at Linfield College from environmental studies to ESPN 2. Hopkins, who helped lead the Wolverines to a top-eight finish at last year’s state tournament, was the first choice of Wolverine play-by-play broadcaster Oly Archibald to join him as a color commentator for the Wolverines postseason games on Friday Harbor Radio.
In a prepared statement Archibald said, “Hannah was my obvious choice. She adds instant credibility because she is just not just a Wolverine but an outstanding student-athlete as well. She knows the players, the coaching staff, and their opponents as well as a great knowledge of the game.”
At Friday Harbor, Hopkins earned 10 letters in three sports, making the first all-league in soccer and fast pitch. Hopkins said in a prepared statement, “I am really excited to work with Oly on these broadcasts.” Hopkins is currently working on her environmental studies major at Linfield College where she carries a 3.4 GPA.
The Wolverines will take part in the double-elimination 2B district tournament May 19 at Sedrow Wolley High School. The top two teams will advance to the state tournament in Yakima.
All games will be broadcast live on Friday Harbor Radio 1650 AM and on the web at fhtinyradio.com.
