A career-high 22 points from the Friday Harbor sophomore Otis Cooper-West wasn’t enough to turn the tide, as the Wolverines trailed from start to finish in a 69-53 loss on the road, Saturday, at Lynden Christian.

Junior Donald Galt tallied 13 points, including a pair of buckets from beyond the 3-point arc, but was the only other Wolverine to finish the game in double digits. The Wolverines shot 40 percent from the field for the game, hitting on 18-of-44 shot attempts. They were 13-of-19 from the free-throw stripe, 68 percent.

“We played pretty physical and matched up alright in that part of the game,” Coach Rod Turnbull said. “But we didn’t shoot the ball very well.”

Despite the loss, Friday Harbor secured the No. 2 seed, at the least, in the upcoming District 1 playoffs, on the strength of earlier victories over Meridian and Nooksack Valley. As the No. 2 seed, the Wolverines would host a game in the opening round of post-season play.

Friday Harbor (6-2 league, 10-4 overall) could still end up seeded No. 1, however,should Meridian overtake Lynden Christian before the close of regular-season play.

The Lyncs (5-2 conference, 10-2 overall), led by senior Issac Reimer, 15 points and 10 rebounds, grabbed a 9-point advantage at the end of the opening quarter in Saturday’s non-conference contest, and stretched that lead over the next eight minutes of play. They led by 16 points, 34-18, at the half.

Lynden Christian sealed the victory in the second half, as both teams scored 35 points after the break.
