The San Juan Dragons’ season ended Saturday in a 13-6 first-round playoff loss to Stadium.

It was a season to remember:

— San Juan finished the season with its best record ever, 8-4, and tied for second in the Skagit Conference.

— Junior attackman Forest Dayton was the seventh-leading scorer in the four-conference, 28-team Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association Division II. During the regular season, he had 38 goals and 14 assists, as well as 58 ground balls.

— Junior goalie Calen Mehrer was again one of the best goalies in WHSBLA Division II. He had 125 saves of 198 shots, for a save percentage of .631.

Coach Rob Cuomo is 13-9, 13-11 overall, with two playoff appearances in two seasons.

“Next year is going to be the brightest year for the Dragons,” said four-year attackman Isaac Taylor, who leaves in August for commercial diving school at Louisiana Technical College. “They’re only going to be losing four guys (to graduation). The junior class is where the power is.”

Taylor, the Dragons’ co-captain, gave the lion’s share of the credit for the season to goalie Mehrer. “We wouldn’t have gotten anywhere without Calen.” Taylor remembered hearing players from opposing teams comment on Mehrer’s saves. “”They’d say, ‘I’ve never seen anyone shut that kid down like that.’ It was an honor to play with him.”
