Darren Black, assistant golf pro at Pumpkin Ridge in North Plains, Ore., has been hired as the head golf pro at San Juan Golf & Country Club.

Black succeeds Brad Dally. His first day on the job is March 18.

Black is 28 and grew up in Lewiston, Idaho. He has a bachelor of social sciences degree from Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston. He and his wife, Toni, have two boys, Drew, 6; and Devin, 1. They will live in Friday Harbor.

At Lewis-Clark, Black was the top-ranked individual player in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and was ranked 19th in all divisions. He turned pro in 2002 after he graduated from college and joined the Gateway and Pepsi tours in Phoenix.

In 2008, Black was one of the second-round leaders and finished with 211 to tie for 11th in the Windermere Northwest Open at Meadow Spring Country Club in Richmond in September. In July, he shot 205 to finish tied for ninth in the Rosauers Open at Indian Canyon Golf Course in Spokane.

In December 2007, he was 1-over at par-72 Spyglass Hill Golf Club to win low-pro honors in Day 1 of the America’s Best Cup, which was played at Spyglass Hill, Spanish Bay and Pebble Beach. Pumpkin Ridge finished second overall.

His goals as pro at San Juan: “To provide the best service I can to make each and every trip to the club a special one,” he said.
