On March 10, Turnbull Gym was packed from wall to wall with friends and family of the class of 2023 gathered for the annual Senior vs Staff fundraiser game. This basketball game was the first one since 2019. After a few kickball games for fundraisers, everyone was excited to be back in the Turnbull Gym for the Senior Staff Basketball game.

Prizes like a stay in Seabrook, Washington, as well as from Deer Hazel and Roche Harbor were auctioned off to the highest bidder to support the class of 2023’s grad night. There was a silent dessert auction, a raffle, and a wonderful dinner prepared by Bakery San Juan.

The noteworthy jail manned by the San Juan Island Sheriff’s Department and a few of the customs officers was a large source of fundraising for these grads. Game goers could pay to have their friends, family, or favorite players on the court jailed for a few minutes. The incarcerated had to rely on their friends and family to bail them back out, and grant them their freedom.

After two overtime periods, the senior class defeated the staff team with a final score of 47-46. The crowd laughed and applauded at the halftime performance by the Wolverine cheerleaders. The fundraiser was filled with laughs, cheering, and a lot of fun for the class of 2023. May the class of 2023 have a fun, memorable, but most importantly safe grad night.
