This week, islanders will receive in the mail a brochure that explains where every dollar goes that is given to United Way of San Juan County.
Each dollar goes to 35 local non-profit agencies that provide services for island children and families. Agencies that help children with after-school studies, provide health services, and provide rental assistance. Agencies that help islanders become homeowners. Agencies that provide healthy, character-building activities for young people, like 4-H, Scouting, summer camps and summer workshops.
The nation’s economy continues to twist and turn. But if all else fails, this fact is clear: Out here on this island, in the northwestern-most point in the continental United States, we have each other. And United Way of San Juan County is a safety net that helps ensure we can provide for each other and that no one falls through the cracks.
Consider giving, either in the envelope you’ll receive or as payroll deduction. Every dollar counts close to home.
