My wife and I came to the Island one year ago. This is our home now. We could see the strong ethic of Islanders to make their community better for everyone. We could see the pride in award-winning EMS services. But even the best programs must adapt to changing conditions, such as declining revenue and increasing costs. We are at that point now. The old property tax levy ends this year. It can no longer sustain EMS service levels so vital to everyone’s health and welfare. When you receive your primary election ballot in the mail, please vote ‘yes’ for the new 2016 EMS levy. Every vote counts because passage requires a 60% approval. We can have excellent EMS service only if we continue to support it. EMS saves lives and makes us a community.
