Feb. 28, 1937 ~ Nov. 20, 2017
Rod was born Feb. 28, 1937, in San Gabriel, California and attended San Marino Elementary School. He graduated from South Pasadena High School and attended Oregon State University where he was a member of Sigma Chi. He then attended the University of Oklahoma and finished his degree in Business and Technology at California State University at Los Angeles. His one disappointment was that he could not serve in the military – he applied but was rejected because he was too tall.
His work history took him into a variety of industries: Byron Jackson Oil Services, Allstate Insurance, Bon Marche where he was Vice President of Loss Prevention, Stage Stores and finally Human Resource Manager for Roche Harbor.
When not working, which he did until just a few months before leaving us, Rod loved family events, Husky football and his contribution to Department of Emergency Management for
San Juan County. He loved living on San Juan Island, once his favorite vacation destination.
Rod is survived by Ann, his wife of 55 years; his son, Clark, daughter-in-law Alesha and grandchildren Cameron and Madison; his son Brett, daughter-in-law Lisa and grandchildren Brooke, Lauren and Natalie; and his brother Gary and sister-in-law Suzy.
Burial: Dec. 2, 2017 at San Juan County Cemetery, Friday Harbor, Washington.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to San Juan Island EMS, PO Box 2178, Friday Harbor, WA 98250.
