Sandy Rabinowitz | Passages

Sandy Rabinowitz passed away at 2 a.m. on Aug. 12, 2023.

Sandy’s special feature was her ability to reach out to people of every description. She was loved and befriended by many people on the island and formed deep personal connections. She was strongly committed to the notion that by voluntarily supporting the island’s many groups, she was contributing to the island life for all.

In recent years she volunteered for Island State Left, San Juan Community Home Trust, and Fish for Teeth. Before coming to the island, she earned a Master’s Degree in family therapy and provided services to at risk children and HIV sufferers. As an ACLU Director in Houston, she helped many obtain legal representation. She always fought for the little guy.

Sandy is survived by her lifelong partner, Ray Glantz, her siblings, Linda Taylor, Denise Estrin, Marcia Solomon, Robin Rabinowitz, Howard Rabinowitz and Melissa Machen and her dog, Covey. Her youngest brother Marc Rabinowitz preceded in death.

A memorial service will be held on Aug. 27, 2023, at Island Stage Left, 2023 Wold Road, Friday Harbor, WA, time TBD.
