Dale Fenno, age 87, passed away on July 15, 2018 in Friday Harbor. He was born on May 23, 1931, in Bellingham to Minnie and Richard Fenno. Dale attended school in Bellingham and joined the Navy at 17 in 1948. He married Virginia Cherry in 1956 in Yuma, Arizona. During his service years, he lived in California, Washington and Norfolk, Virginia, where he served aboard six ships. He ended his military career in 1968 as a lieutenant with 20 years of service. He then returned to Bellingham and attended Western Washington University and earned a degree in technology and education in three years. Dale started teaching in 1971 at Shuksan Middle School and taught for 16 years. In 1987 both Dale and Virginia retired from the school district. Dale and Virginia enjoyed an active life of boating, RVing and traveling around the United States and has been in every state in the Union. They spent many summers living in Friday Harbor and wintering in Arizona. Dale was active in the Shrine and the Bellingham Yacht Club where he worked through the chairs and became commodore in 1993. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Virginia, and their daughter Marijeanne. A graveside service with military honors was held at Greenacres Memorial Park, 5700 Northwest Dr. in Ferndale, at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24. Share your memories at www.westfordfuneralhome.com.
