Family and friends will gather Saturday, 3 p.m., at the Iverson home to remember Marta Kristin Anderson Iverson. Marta Iverson was born March 19, 1959. She died Jan. 13, in the presence of family and friends, of ovarian cancer.
No services will be held and in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., Anacortes and the San Juan Islands.
Bob passed Jan. 4, 2009 of natural causes. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lolly; his daughters, Diane and Nancy; his son-in-law, Thomas; grandchildren, May and Leif; and cousins, Mrs. Douglas Steele of Lake Forest and Jaci Wisniewski of San Dimas.
Warren Eugene Stanton of Friday Harbor, Wash., died Friday, Jan. 2, 2009 in Friday Harbor. He was 66. He was born on Sept. 13, 1942 in Portland, Ore., the son of Howard and Rhea (Conn) Stanton.
Bonita C. Morrow passed away Dec. 8 in Pendleton, Ore. She was 79. She was born in Friday Harbor, Wash., on Aug. 20, 1929 to Logan and Juanita Crosby. She married John Theodore (Ted) Schuman on July 3, 1949. They had five children together: John Theodore (Jack), Daniel Robert, David Thomas (Tom), James Paul, and Marna Lynn.
Viola “Vi” Lorraine King, age 91, went home to her Lord and Savior on Friday, Dec. 5, 2008. She was born to Walter and Hattie (Messenger) Andrus on Oct. 6, 1917 in Blaine, Wash., where she spent her childhood years. She graduated from Blaine High School in 1935 and, shortly thereafter, moved to Friday Harbor to work as a nanny. In Friday Harbor, she met Blair King and they married Oct. 1, 1939 in Blaine. They made their home in Friday Harbor, where together they owned and operated King’s Market for 40 years. In 2001, Vi and Blair moved to Lynden to be near family.
Jean McLeod, who during her 20 years in Friday Harbor enjoyed sailing, gardening and doll making, has died. She passed away suddenly Nov. 17 in Atlanta, Ga. due to lung failure. She and her husband, John, were building a home in Hayesville, N.C., where they moved to be closer to family.
Patricia Joanne Saylor passed away on Monday morning, Nov. 17, 2008, at St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham with her children and husband, Dick, at her side. She was hospitalized the week before due to complications following a serious fall. She was 74.
Patricia Plant of Sausalito, Calif., passed away peacefully Nov. 15, 2008 in Tiburon, Calif. She was 92 and a summer resident of Shaw Island. She is survived by her children, Richard of Inverness, David of Woodacre, and Marden of Belvedere; grandchildren, Nathaniel and Joshua Plant, Christopher Mosher and Hana Alvarez; and great-grandchildren, Kathryn and Carl Plant; Patricia, Carlos, Sonia, Reina and Clara Alvarez; and Maya Mosher.
Riley Pratt O’Brien of Friday Harbor, Wash., formerly of Winnetka, Ill., and Buffalo, N.Y., died at the age of 97 on Nov. 8, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Mary Frances Aspinwall; and his wife of 16 years, Martha Towle Fortune.
David Ernest Daum was born July 31, 1939 in Pittsburgh, Pa., and passed away on Nov. 1, 2008 at the age of 69. Dave was a long-time resident of San Juan Island, enjoying his retirement in the sun here and in San Jose, Cabo San Lucas.
Kathryn Robb, known to many islanders as “Robbie,” was born in Great Britain on April 29, 1933, and died in the morning of Oct. 24, 2008. She passed away in her home on San Juan Island surrounded by a few friends and loyal old dog, Sam, by her side.
Rusty Pollock, administrator of Islands Convalescent Center, died Friday, 4:55 p.m. in Island Hospital after a brief bout with pancreatic cancer. He was 58. Service was Saturday at Evans Funeral Chapel in Anacortes. A memorial service is being planned on the island. Details will be published later.
