Born in Friday Harbor, Wash., Feb. 29 to Gladys (nee Guard) and Raymond Madden. Kathryn’s birth was followed by sister Florence Prentiss (now deceased), brother James Madden (now deceased) and sister Molly Madden of Friday Harbor.
Charles A. Hudson, “Charlie,” was born in Oklahoma on Sept. 15, 1967. Most of his adventures were in the Seattle area. Charlie moved to Lopez Island, Wash., in May 2002 and fell in love with the island and the people. He said this was the most beautiful place he had ever been.
Irving Spector of San Juan Island, formerly of Memphis, Tenn., passed away peacefully on June 26, 2009 at Islands Convalescent Center on San Juan Island. He was 95.
Evelyn Jane Jones was born to Daniel and Matilda Jones, the seventh of seven children, in Eagle Valley, just outside Richland, Ore.
Alex H. McRea of Friday Harbor died before midnight June 7, 2009.
He was 92. There will be a memorial service June 19, 1:30 p.m., in Friday Harbor Presbyterian Church, followed by private family burial.
Arthur R. Lehwalder, born in Butte, Mont., in 1917, passed peacefully on May 29 at his home on Orcas Island. He led a full and active life and will be greatly missed.
Our beloved mother and grandmother Lola D. Risbell, Aug. 16, 1927 – May 23, 2009, fought a brave and courageous battle against cancer. She fought it with dignity and grace and is at peace now.
Memorial service is May 23, noon, at Friday Harbor Presbyterian Church for Allen Martin Mason of Friday Harbor. Mr. Mason was born July 22, 1945. He died May 17, 2009.
David Lee Spurgeon of San Juan Island died May 13 of complications from a chronic respiratory condition, the San Juan Island Yacht Club announced Thursday.
Arlene Rhonwen Forgie passed away May 8, 2009 in Friday Harbor, Wash., with her daughters and granddaughters by her side. Arlene was born to Leslie and Alice Cannon and raised in Victoria, B.C. Canada. In 1959, Arlene married Hugh Douglas Forgie. They were married until 1991. They raised three children together.
Sharon led a modest life, had a positive, strong-willed spirit and was the rock of her family and friends. Her life on Lopez was full of days at the beach, gardening, keeping up with her kids’ musical endeavors, sporting events, making jewelry, knitting, baking and planning events. The smell of fresh baked bread, cookies and pies always seemed to fill her house.
Patricia Barrett Harrah of Cape San Juan passed away peacefully at home April 22 with her husband at her side, after a long struggle with kidney disease. She had just passed her 82nd birthday and she and Bill celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last year.
Bob Dann of Friday Harbor, a retired chemist who taught ethnic dance and wrote six novels, has died. Mr. Dann was 87. Funeral is at noon on May 8 at St. David’s Church, followed by a brief reception and then interment at Valley Cemetery.
