Melvin A. Harrison, born in Seattle on Nov. 16, 1924, passed away peacefully on Jan. 9, 2017. As a young man, Melvin joined the military, met Florence in 1945 and they married the same year. He received his PhD in physics from the University of Washington. He taught at Seattle Pacific College, had a long career at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and enjoyed over 30 years of retirement on Friday Harbor, Washington. Melvin enjoyed many things in his retired life including his many friends and family, waterfront property, church, Yacht Club, tutoring math and daily walks.
He is survived by his beloved wife of over 72 years, Florence, his son David Harrison, his daughter Leslie Harrison, and two grandchildren, Jacob and Lillianna.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb.11 at the Presbyterian church in Friday Harbor, Washington.
