Joyce Lockwood Milne
Jan. 13, 1919 — June 6, 2012
Joyce Lockwood Milne, 93, of Roche Harbor, San Juan Island, Wash., passed away as she lived her life, quietly and gracefully, on June 6, 2012 in Friday Harbor.
Joyce was born in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, on Jan. 13, 1919, the daughter of Hugh and Edith (Peters) Frost. She grew up on a farm nestled in the Valley of a Thousand Hills, some of the loveliest hills and valleys in southern Africa.
Joyce nursed allied troops during WWII in Egypt and Italy. Her life with her beloved husband Ramsay took her to many places and countries, and their home was always filled with family and friends from all over the world.
Joyce was a fine and faithful friend, and those who came to her found they could confide in her with absolute confidence and receive advice unfailingly both kind and wise.
She cared for many friends, carried throughout her life, even from childhood.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents; Ramsay, her husband of 58 years, and her son Graham. She leaves behind daughters Felicity Milne of Friday Harbor, Wash., Glenda Monasch of Boulder, Colo. (and husband David-Michael), grandchildren Mio Monasch, Tamsyn and Emma Milne, many relatives in USA, SA, and UK as well as many dear and faithful friends on San Juan Island and abroad.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life in the coming spring. Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Anacortes, Wash., and the San Juan Islands.
