Jean Long

1928 — 2013

Jean Long, age 85, of Glide, Ore., passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday April 14, 2013.

Jean was born E. Jean Sutherland in San Juan County, Wash. to parents Walter and Winnifred Sutherland of Orcas Island. Jean was born and raised in Friday Harbor. She lived on San Juan Island after marrying her first husband, who passed away from cancer leaving Jean widowed in 1980.

Jean spent many years living in the beautiful San Juan Islands, where she helped run a dairy farm and ranch. It was there she also raised her daughter, Dona Heidenreich.

She spent most of her life in Washington state before meeting and falling in love with Glenn Long of Glide and moving to Oregon in 1984.

Jean was a very kind and generous woman who loved to grow flowers and care for animals and chickens. Jean was always actively donating to many charities and organizations, and particularly supported cancer research and donated regularly to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center since she herself overcame breast cancer.

She was a mother, wife and friend who will be greatly missed.

Jean was preceded in death by her first husband Walter G. Heidenreich. She is survived by her husband, Glenn Long, daughter Dona Heidenreich, and several stepchildren nephews and nieces.
