David Shawn Wilks was born June 13, 1957, to Harry and Adele Wilks. He was the youngest of their five children. He passed away peacefully after a brief illness on July 27, 2018 in Friday Harbor. David was born in Friday Harbor and raised in the family home on Wilks Way overlooking Griffin Bay. He enjoyed fishing and time at the beach and also riding the ferries with his father, who worked on the ferry as an engineer. Most of his adult life, he worked in the food service industry, and for the past 15 years he resided in Lynnwood, Washington, where he was employed through Compass Group through Boeing. David was known for his big heart, caring spirit and love for animals. He enjoyed football, baseball and music. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Adele Wilks. He is survived by his sister Pat Ybarra of Mount Vernon; brothers Mike (Beth) of Friday Harbor; Dennis of Bellingham and Charles of Sultan; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Graveside services were at 1 p.m., on Friday, Aug. 3 at the Valley Cemetery in Friday Harbor. Memorials are suggested to P.A.W.S. or the San Juan Animal Protection Society.
