David Erwitt was born to Lucienne VanKan and Elliott Erwitt in New York City.

As a kid he could be seen unicycling around his Bronx neighborhood on his way to and from school. Bicycles were his drug, his first job was at a bike repair shop.

He decided early on what interested him and set about finding ways to satisfy his curiosities, leaving the nest as quickly as he could.

He loved maritime life and started to live and crew on boats in marinas up and down the California coast. He married Sherri Sarver and they had two kids, Erik and CJ, they lived in Two Harbors Catalina. Then moved to Page Arizona. If you had a problem with your houseboat on the lake you might have met him. After some time he moved his family to Lopez Island where he was a master mechanic on boats, also he had a Commercial Captains license, Master Divers license and was close to soloing in an airplane while building one.

When his wife Sherri fell ill he moved his family to the family home in California and became a caregiver and then he fell ill. Even though he was in great pain himself it never lessened his devotion to his wife’s care. His strength and love was something to behold. After Sherri passed David moved back to the San Juan Islands, Friday Harbor. He worked at Roche Harbor as a master mechanic on boats for several years.

David met Michele DeLorenzi, they married on Aug.12th, 2022.
