Adelle Anne Uhlmann, 87, of Friday Harbor, WA, died peacefully in her sleep after a long illness on early Saturday morning of July 25, 2020. Born in Anchorage, on April 8, 1933 to Florence “Flossie” and Halford Noggle, she homesteaded near Anchorage and graduated from Anchorage High School in 1951. She learned to drive on a 5-ton double clutch dump truck along Alaska’s dirt road “highways.”
As a teenager, she moved to Kirkland, Washington and also lived aboard a boat in Washington, D.C. She attended the University of Washington in the early 50s. While there, she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, met and married E. R. “Rusty” Young. Life carried her away from the PNW and she became a staff secretary in D.C. for Senator Styles Bridges. While in Virginia, she met and married her second husband, Albert Krall, and moved to Denver, Colorado in 1966. In Denver, she married Gary Uhlmann in 1971. As a mother of two, she worked for the U.S. Department of Labor until her retirement.
Anne left Denver in 2000 and moved to the San Juan Islands to be near her island children, Nancy Young and James Krall, who cared for her for many years. A lifelong knitter, she enjoyed spending time playing bridge with friends at the Mullis Center in Friday Harbor and relished visits from her two children.
Anne is survived by her loving family, her daughter, Nancy Young and Jeff MacDonald of Friday Harbor and her son, James Krall of Fairbanks, Alaska. She has two granddaughters: Alex MacDonald and Jennifer (MacDonald) Sandifer.
At her request, suggested remembrances may be made to Hospice of the Northwest, Hospice of the San Juan and or the Animal Shelter in Friday Harbor. Memorial plans to be announced at a later time.
