The Washington Council of Police and Sheriffs has endorsed Steve Van Luven for election to the 40th District state Senate position.
Van Luven, Republican, is a Samish Island native who represented Bellevue in the state House of Representatives for more than 17 years. He now lives on Samish Island. He is running against San Juan County Councilman Kevin Ranker, the Democratic Party nominee.
WACOPS was founded more than 50 years ago and today has a membership of about 5,000 law enforcement professionals who have dedicated their careers to protecting and serving our communities.
Executive Board President Mark Lann, a deputy sheriff in Whatcom County, said, “WACOPS enthusiastically endorses Steve Van Luven in his bid for the state Senate in the 40th District. Law enforcement professionals in Washington state know Steve Van Luven has consistently supported legislation to protect and enhance the welfare of uniformed officers over the years.”
Executive Director Jamie Daniels, added, “Steve Van Luven is a friend to law enforcement officials in the state. Steve has worked on behalf of our police and sheriff deputies for improvements within their LEOFF II retirement system. We are proud to endorse Steve Van Luven for the Washington state Senate.”
