Candidate forums and meet-and-greets are scheduled or being scheduled in September and October.
Sheriff candidate Rob Nou attended a Luncheon/Meet and Greet Sept. 14, noon, in the China Pearl Restaurant, Friday Harbor. He will attend a Luncheon/Meet and Greet Sept. 15, noon, at Boardwalk Cafe, Orcas Island, followed by a “Thank You, Orcas Island” Barbeque at 5 p.m. at 120 Buck Mountain Road, Eastsound.
Sheriff candidate Brent Johnson will attend a Luncheon/Meet and Greet Sept. 22, noon, at in the China Pearl Restaurant, Friday Harbor. He will attend a Luncheon/Meet and Greet Sept. 30, 12:30 p.m., at Boardwalk Cafe, Orcas Island.
All candidates for Congress, state House, sheriff and County Council have been invited to forums hosted by the League of Women Voters of the San Juans. The dates are:
— Oct. 15, 1:30-3:30 p.m., Shaw Island.
— Oct. 15, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Friday Harbor.
— Oct. 16, 10 a.m. to noon, Orcas Island.
— Oct. 16, 4:30-6:30 p.m., Lopez Island.
The general election is Nov. 2. San Juan County voters will elect their first new sheriff in 24 years. They will also have choices in other local and regional offices.
— Congress: Rep. Rick Larsen, D-Everett; and Snohomish County Councilman John Koster, R-Arlington.
— State House of Representatives, Position 1: Anacortes School Board President Kristine Lytton, Democrat; and Mount Vernon real estate agent Mike Newman, Republican.
— State House of Representatives, Position 2: Rep. Jeff Morris, D-Anacortes; and businessman John Swapp, Republican, of Decatur Island.
— San Juan County sheriff: Detective Brent Johnson of San Juan Island and Deputy Rob Nou of Lopez Island.
— San Juan County Council, San Juan North: Councilman Rich Peterson and educator Laura Jo Severson.
— San Juan County Council, Lopez/Shaw: Councilman Bob Myhr and Lopez Port Commissioner Jaime Stephens.
