The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
Sept. 4
• An Orcas deputy responded to a vagrancy call in Eastsound and issued an individual citation for illegally camping in San Juan County.
• On Orcas, a deputy responded to a callback about a hit-and-run accident.
• A San Juan deputy took a report of a vehicle prowl in which a vehicle was entered overnight, but nothing was taken.
• Deputies on San Juan responded to a welfare check. Sadly, the subject of the welfare check was located deceased inside the residence. The San Juan County Coroner responded and an investigation was conducted.
• A deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on San Juan and issued them a citation for speeding on Mullis Street – 55 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone.
• After receiving a report about a suspicious person in a vehicle on Orcas, a deputy checked the area and couldn’t find them.
• On San Juan, a deputy documented an individual approaching the deputy on a unicycle and cussing at them.
Sept. 5
• An Orcas deputy responded to a report that a laptop computer was located in the Deer Harbor area. Fortunately, the owner was located and the computer was returned.
• A San Juan deputy took a report of a potentially stolen laptop.
• After a deputy received a report that a debit card had been left at a local Eastsound business, they placed it into evidence until it could be returned.
• An Orcas deputy authored an incident report referencing a hit-and-run that occurred in Moran State Park.
• A San Juan deputy took a report of trespassing at the Port of Friday Harbor and issued the trespasser a warning letter barring him from all Port property.
• Lopez deputies and Lopez Fire & EMS responded to a CPR ALS. Unfortunately, the individual was pronounced deceased and Evan’s Funeral Home was contacted.
• Deputies on San Juan arrested a person who had three outstanding warrants out of San Juan County and booked them into the San Juan County Jail.
• A Lopez deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle who was traveling 34 mph in a posted 25 mph zone and issued them a speeding citation.
• Deputies on San Juan responded to a report of a juvenile problem
Sept. 6
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a traffic collision. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene and the vehicle was impounded. The driver was not located in the area.
• A driver on Lopez received a citation for traveling 62 mph in a 45 mph zone of Center Road.
• A San Juan deputy took an incident report of a late-reported, private-property traffic collision.
• After a San Juan deputy investigated a report of a court order violation, the suspect was arrested and booked into jail.
Sept. 7
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a Citizen Assist in which the caller was seeking advice on getting help for an aging parent. The deputy was able to link the caller to local and state resources.
• A San Juan deputy took a report documenting theft from a farm stand.
• Lopez deputies responded to a domestic incident after a driver observed an elderly woman scolding her adult son. No further action was necessary.
Sept. 8
• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of disorderly conduct at the ferry terminal after a person was displaying behavioral health concerns. A family member took over driving for the person and they departed the island.
• Deputies issued a citation to a Friday Harbor man for the second offense of a dog at large.
• After an investigation, a driver who collided with a bus at Roche Harbor Resort was cited for driving with a suspended license- third offense.
• A deputy on San Juan took custody of a found cell phone. The cell phone’s owner knew of the loss but was back at their residence off the island. Until retrieved, the phone was placed into evidence as found property.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a reported theft.
Sept. 9
• An Orcas resident complained about someone sending them abusive text messages. Since there were no direct threats, nor was the recipient put in reasonable fear for their self, loved ones, or property, no crime had been committed.
• A deputy on Orcas took a report of possible vagrancy.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of someone vandalizing a residence. The suspect was injured during the incident and flown off island for further treatment. The suspect was later charged with disorderly conduct and malicious mischief in the first degree.
• A deputy on San Juan took a report of a found wallet and notified the owner of their property. Since the owner had already left the island they asked that the wallet be mailed back to them.
