Project task(s):

The Contractor finished constructing the water main alignment up to the Guard Street intersection.

One crew will begin construction of fire hydrant and water service connection lines. Lots currently connected to the water system will be switched over to new lines once they are tested, flushed, sanitized and inspected. (Water users will be notified in advance of service interruptions.)

The Contractor will be transitioning into the phase of the project for installation of power and telephone infrastructure. A second crew will begin pouring concrete bases for new street lighting, followed by trenching for electrical, fiber optics and cable TV.

Project areas will cleaned and patched prior to the holiday weekend.

Street Closure:

Construction of water service lines and trenching both require multiple road crossings. This will cause delays for local access and southbound traffic.

The Southbound lane will be temporarily closed during road crossings. Flaggers will advise drivers of when it makes sense to use Harbor Street as an alternative. Southbound traffic may use the Larson Street detour to avoid the construction area entirely.

The northbound lane between Guard Street and Harbor Street will remain closed for the duration of the project.

Detour:

The detour route will remain in effect for the duration of the project. The detour route for this project is Carter Avenue to Larson Street to Tucker Avenue. Southbound vehicles entering Town may use this detour if they do not wish to pass through the construction zone. The public is reminded that the detour route is considered part of the project zone and it is through a residential zone with school and apartment facilities. On behalf of its residents, please be respectful and cautious of children at play and animals.

Bicyclists:

Due to safety and construction zone conditions, bicyclists are not allowed to ride their bikes through the construction zone. Bicyclists must get off and walk their bike on the northbound pedestrian route or use the detour route for vehicles.

Safety: “Watch out for road plates, loose gravel and moving equipment!”

Pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists should exercise common sense and use extreme caution. Be aware of equipment, construction workers, trucks and construction materials including road plates and loose gravel. The equipment being used is large and unwieldy at times. Give this equipment the attention it deserves. Make sure you are seen while moving within the job site and abide by flagger instructions.

Speeding:

The posted speed limit is 20 mph in the construction zone and detour route. Penalties automatically double for traffic violations in construction zones. A ticket for traveling 25 mph in the posted 20 mph construction zone will carry a minimum penalty of $250.

Construction Hours:

The Contractor has been authorized to work between the hours of 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Friday.

Message from the Contractor:

“We are very sorry to upset the routes of travel over the duration of the project. We are especially sorry about the interruptions to the businesses within the project route. MCE respectfully apologizes for the inconveniences the construction forces us to make. Please don’t forget that businesses are open and have full access.” – Mike Carlson, Owner, MCE
