Town plans to return to in-person meetings as COVID eases

Submitted by the Town of Friday Harbor

The Town Council of Friday Harbor is preparing to meet in person for the first time in two years after all town meetings went virtual in the spring of 2020.

Virtual meetings have allowed more people to engage with their local government than ever before, and the town will continue to provide that accessibility to the public.

The council plans to return to a hybrid meeting format, allowing the public to attend meetings at Town Hall, as well as online. The decision came after Governor Jay Inslee lifted the indoor mask mandate requirement on March 12.

The mayor and council will continue to monitor national COVID-19 trends, including new variants, and when needed, discuss whether to return to virtual-only meetings or remain in a hybrid format.

The next Town Council meeting will be held on Thursday, April 7. No decision has been made yet as to when other Town Boards, Commissions and Committees will return to in-person meetings.
