The San Juan Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

May 11

• San Juan deputy responded to a community complaint of possible animal cruelty/neglect regarding sheep. The complaint was investigated and unfounded.

• A Lopez deputy took a theft report from a resident regarding a pride flag that was taken overnight.

• A deputy on Lopez was called about an erratic driver. The driver of the vehicle was located and the vehicle was found to be overloaded.

• A deputy was dispatched to a welfare check on San Juan. When the deputy contacted the people involved, everyone was fine.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to an accident on Mt. Baker Road. The injured party was evaluated and released; however, the at-fault driver was issued a citation for not having insurance and for expired registration. There was little to no damage to both vehicles.

May 12

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of a theft from a business. Since the video surveillance was not working, there are no suspects at this time.

• Lopez deputies worked on a landlord-tenant dispute. Both parties were advised of their rights and responsibilities in the matter.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a reported theft from a local business during which $1,500 worth of items were suspected to be stolen. Most of the items were recovered and probable cause for charging the suspect with second-degree theft will be sent to the prosecutor’s office.

• A deputy spoke with a Lopez resident about a suspected anti-harassment order violation. A report was completed and forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of harassment. The incident was not criminal in nature at this time, and the reporting party was advised of possible remedies.

• A deputy was dispatched to a residential burglary call on Orcas.

May 13

• A deputy responded to a report of fraud in Friday Harbor. The caller said that an unknown person tried to cash a check on her account and the check was returned for insufficient funds. There is no suspect information or workable leads at this time.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle. The vehicle was located on the county right-of-way in a ditch and appeared to be inoperable. The vehicle was impounded.

• A deputy took a report of a theft from a local San Juan business. The juvenile suspect was contacted and issued a trespass notice.

• A deputy on Orcas stopped a speeding driver and issued them a citation for traveling 45 mph in a 35 mph zone.

• A deputy received a complaint from a Lopez resident that an unidentified person stole an item he purchased online after a FedEx employee dropped it off at a gate near his residence on Hummel Lake Road.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of theft. The victim stated they did not wish to pursue charges against the suspect but did want them trespassed from their property. A trespass letter was completed and signed by the victim.

• San Juan deputies conducted a welfare check and found the person did not need assistance.

May 14

• A Lopez resident reported the theft of a Pride flag.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of found bones. A human skull was located along with two other bones which are unknown at this time. The case is currently under investigation.

• A Lopez deputy was called to investigate a possible burglary attempt to a home near the village.

• A deputy responded to a report of trespassing in Friday Harbor. After contacting the people involved, one person was served with a trespass warning letter.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a suspicious incident. The suspect was trespassed from a property and advised not to ask people to sell them controlled substances.

• A deputy issued a speeding driver on Orcas a citation for clocking 48 mph in a 35 mph zone.

• A driver traveling 57 mph over the posted 35 mph was stopped by a deputy and issued a citation.

May 15

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a domestic dispute. Both parties reported that no criminal act had occurred, and separated voluntarily.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of an animal-at-large. After the animal, a dog, was located and the owner identified, the owner said she didn’t want the dog back. The deputy then took the dog to the animal shelter.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a report of domestic violence. Once the deputies spoke with the person who reported the incident, the deputies determined no crime was committed. An incident report was taken for documentation purposes.

May 16

• A deputy stopped and cited a driver on San Juan for exceeding the posted speed limit.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop near Eastsound and found the driver had a suspended license- third degree. A passenger who did have a valid license said they would drive the vehicle going forward. A probable cause statement and a report were completed.

• A San Juan community member called to report being the victim of identity theft. An unknown person opened a credit card in her name and used it on the East Coast. The deputy provided the victim with resources.

• A Lopez deputy contacted and verbally admonished an intoxicated person who was making inappropriate calls to 911. The deputy also reminded the intoxicated caller of the proper use of 911.

• A deputy was in touch with a person who found an Apple iPhone on the ground on North Beach Road. The deputy filed a found property report and the phone was booked into evidence for safekeeping.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a complaint of loud music from a residence. The homeowner was advised of the noise ordinance and the escalating fine schedule if the violations continued.

May 17

• A deputy responded to a traffic accident in Friday Harbor that turned out to be a vehicle versus bike traffic accident. The bike rider was traveling in the wrong direction on a one-way.

• A deputy arrested a local man on an active warrant issued out of San Juan County Superior Court for Assault in Violation of a Protection/No Contact Order and Assault in the fourth degree. The male was booked into jail awaiting a next-day hearing.

• San Juan deputies responded to a reported domestic incident. The suspect was located and informed that a report would be sent to the prosecutor’s office for a charging decision.

• A Lopez resident reported the theft of a Pride flag from the end of their driveway.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of domestic violence. A man was arrested for fourth-degree domestic violence assault and was booked into jail.
