Student with weed at FHHS, ATV stolen and burned | San Juan County Sheriff’s Log Dec. 1 to Dec. 5

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls:

Dec. 1

• A juvenile male was found in possession of marijuana at the Friday Harbor High School. The deputy subsequently responded to the location and completed an investigation, which has been forwarded to juvenile court.

• A deputy responded to a report of theft of a package from a mailbox on Orcas Island. A report was taken and an investigation continues.

• Deputies responded to the San Juan Island Sculpture Park for theft of a Gator ATV from their storage shed. This is the Gator that was found burning at Roche Harbor Road and West Valley Road on Nov. 13. Evidence was collected and the investigation continues.

• A deputy responded to the 500 block of Carter Avenue in reference a possible abandoned vehicle. The case is active at this time.

• A Lopez Island deputy spoke with a parent regarding her juvenile child, who had accessed websites which made her vulnerable to sexual predators. The parent was also concerned for her child’s mental welfare. The child was medically evaluated and a criminal investigation is being conducted.

Dec. 2

• An Orcas Island woman reported a theft of money from a bank account. Further investigation revealed the incident was civil in nature and no criminal charges were filed.

• A deputy was dispatched to a suspicious circumstance in Friday Harbor. Contact was made with involved parties. The investigation continues.

• A Friday Harbor deputy was dispatched to a domestic dispute.

Dec 3

• Deputies were dispatched to a domestic dispute in Friday Harbor. After further investigation, it was found to be verbal in nature.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched for a welfare check on a Lopez woman after a 911 hangup. The woman was transported to Friday Harbor for a mental evaluation.

• A deputy was dispatched to a death investigation in the San Juan Island area. A report is to follow.

• A Friday Harbor resident called to report his mountain bike had been stolen off of his porch. He had left the bike on the porch overnight, unlocked, and in the morning it was gone. There is no suspects or useful evidence at this time.

• A deputy was dispatched to a residence near the Orcas Island ferry landing reference a medical call. The deputy along with Orcas Island Fire and Rescue provided medical services. A report was completed.

• An Edmonds couple reported a suspicious vehicle came down their long rural Lopez Island driveway. Neither recognized the pickup, which had immediately left when it pulled up by the house. The pickup had left the area before the deputy arrived.

Dec. 4

• A San Juan County sheriff’s deputy responded to a vehicle collision. An unoccupied vehicle had rolled backward into a power transformer. A collision report was completed.

• A female came to the sheriff’s office. She said her adult brother was a passenger in her car and was rude, abusive and refused to get out of her car. When deputies went outside the brother had left the area.

• A deputy while on patrol identified a speeding vehicle on Orcas Road. A traffic stop was made and the driver was cited for speeding and warned for not having a current insurance card with him.

Dec. 5

• Dispatch received a garbled cell phone call, with multiple possible addresses. A domestic violence assault victim was located, photos were taken and the person was transported to stay with family, while deputies searched for the suspect. The investigation continues.
