The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
Oct. 13
• Deputies were dispatched to a report of unknown trouble in the Eastsound area. A person was arrested and the investigation is ongoing.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 34 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver was issued citations for not having a valid license with identification and for not having insurance. Multiple warnings were also given.
• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to a report of vandalism.
Oct. 14
• Acting on an order from the San Juan County District Court, a Friday Harbor deputy took a man into custody and booked him into jail without incident.
• A Lopez resident asked a deputy to take several rounds of miscellaneous ammunition for safe disposal.
• A San Juan deputy issued a driver a citation for failing to stop at a stop sign.
Oct. 15
• San Juan deputies responded to a call regarding suspicious activity. A subject with local warrants was located, arrested and booked into jail.
• A Lopez resident requested assistance with a harassment situation.
• A Lopez deputy investigated a van versus motorcycle collision.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a hit-and-run collision. There are no suspects at this time and the incident was documented.
• A deputy on San Juan issued a driver a citation for traveling 42 mph in a 25 mph zone.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for driving left-of-center. The driver was issued a citation for failing to wear a safety belt and a warning was given for driving left-of-center.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license-third degree and issued a citation for not having insurance.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a domestic violence incident. The incident was found to be verbal, and no crime was committed.
Oct. 16
• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle who was found to have a suspended license and no required ignition interlock. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license in the third degree and an ignition interlock violation.
• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to the public library to pick up two bikes that had been in the bike racks for over three weeks.
• A deputy conducted a welfare check at a Lopez residence after a person called and claimed that the juvenile children at the home were in danger because the parent was not home. The deputy determined that the parent was home and that the complaint was unfounded.
• A deputy conducted a traffic stop in Eastsound for lane travel and an improper stop at a stop sign. Further investigation revealed the probable cause to believe the driver was impaired by alcohol or drugs. The driver was then arrested, processed and released.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of an unwanted person. The complaint involved a conflict between a homeowner and an unwelcome tenant. No laws appeared to have been broken, and the homeowner was advised to petition the court to have the tenant evicted.
Oct. 17
• A deputy on Orcas issued a driver a citation for speeding in Moran State Park.
• A deputy on San Juan conducted a welfare check. The subjects were contacted and the issue was resolved.
Oct. 18
• A Lopez deputy stopped and ticketed a driver for speeding 43 mph in a 25 mph zone on Fisherman Bay Road.
• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a domestic incident in Friday Harbor. One person was arrested for fourth-degree domestic violence assault and was booked into the San Juan County Jail.
• A deputy responded to an agency assist in the Eastsound area.
• A deputy conducted a welfare check on San Juan. The subject was contacted and denied needing help.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a noise complaint. The subject was contacted and advised of the noise ordinance.
• A speeding driver fled from a Lopez deputy. The driver crashed after failing to negotiate a turn and was flown off for medical care. Charges of driving under the influence, reckless driving and felony eluding will be filed.
• An Orcas deputy conducted an area check at the Westsound county dock and took note of a vessel located at the dock which had been issued numerous citations for unlawful overnight moorage before. The deputy issued the vessel’s owner a citation.
Oct. 19
• A deputy in Friday Harbor responded to a report of attempted unemployment fraud in Michigan. A case number was provided to the caller to give to the credit agencies and a report was made.
• A deputy on San Juan issued a driver a citation for not having a valid operator’s license and for not having insurance.
• A San Juan deputy issued a driver a citation for driving 39 mph in a 25 mph zone.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of unknown trouble. Deputies found the report to be about a juvenile problem. Some information and guidance weas provided to all involved.
• A deputy on San Juan issued a driver a citation for clocking 41 mph in a 25 mph zone.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a burglary in progress. It was reported the intruder was shot. Upon investigation, no one was found injured. Deputies believed this was “swatting” — a harassment tactic by deceiving an emergency service into sending police or emergency personnel to another person’s address — and found it to be a false report.
Oct. 20
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of someone screaming. The deputy was unable to locate anyone in distress.
• A Lopez deputy was called regarding a horse running at-large near the Center Church. The horse was located and, with some help from the island’s equestrian community, the horse’s owner was quickly identified and reunited with the wandering steed.
• On San Juan, a deputy responded to a report of a fraud involving a Facebook account being hacked. No monetary loss was incurred and there are no suspects or workable leads.
• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a domestic incident in Friday Harbor. No crime was committed and a report was made.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of a dog running at-large in the area of Hummel Lake Road and Port Stanley. The dog was gone when the deputy arrived in the area.
• A Lopez deputy provided a concerned citizen with information about emergency preparedness.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of vandalism. The incident is currently under investigation.
