The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
Oct. 27
• A Lopez resident reported a perceived traffic offense. A report was completed. The incident is unfounded at this time.
Oct. 30
• A Friday Harbor resident was arrested for violating a protection order by coming within 25’ of the protected party’s residence. The male was transported and booked into the jail pending a hearing with the judge.
• A deputy on San Juan Island received a report that a citizen was concerned about the living conditions of some horses. The deputy observed that the conditions were appropriate at this time.
Oct. 31
• A San Juan deputy took a report of vehicle theft. The reporting party was not the registered owner. This incident is still under investigation.
• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a trespass complaint. This case is still under investigation.
Nov. 1
• Deputies on Orcas responded to a single-vehicle collision. The vehicle had been there for some time. The driver was identified and charged with leaving the scene of an accident – property damage, no proof of liability insurance and expired registration over two months.
• The Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous tip through Tip411 about the possible theft of election signs. The investigation led to a juvenile taking numerous signs. Most of the signs were recovered and a report was forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office for a charging decision.
Nov. 2
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a collision involving an automated iPhone call. No crash appeared to have occurred, but a phone was located in a ditch with a broken screen. It appears that the phone fell from a moving vehicle.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 45 mph. The driver was issued an infraction for speed.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle as the driver had a suspended driver’s license. The driver was issued a citation for DWLS Third degree and an infraction for no insurance.
Nov. 3
• A stroller was turned into the Sheriff’s Office by a San Juan resident after it was left across from their house sometime around Halloween. The stroller was placed into the property and evidence room.
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a report of theft. A case number was created. Additional patrols will be performed in that area.
• A deputy on San Juan took a report of possible stolen property. An individual was moving out from where they had been living and could not find their medications; they believed a family member knew where they were. A report was completed.
• A deputy on San Juan took a report of a domestic incident in which the parties had separated. After speaking with the reporting party, deputies spoke with the other involved party. After an investigation, it was determined that a crime had not occurred. A report was completed.
Nov. 4
• A Lopez resident reported the theft of packages delivered the evening of Oct. 31. There is no suspect information at this time. A report was completed.
• Deputies on San Juan responded to a physical fight between two males on a sidewalk in Friday Harbor. A report was completed.
• A deputy on San Juan took a report from a female who was in a crisis and did not feel safe. The next day, Compass Health got involved and issued a pickup order. The female was taken to the hospital without incident.
Nov. 5
• A deputy on San Juan received a report of a traffic collision. One vehicle was involved and there were no injuries. The deputy completed a state collision report.
• An Orcas deputy took a report of a scam email demanding $2,000 in bitcoin from the victim with the threat of installing malware on the victim’s computer. The victim did not incur any loss. A report was authored.
• A deputy on San Juan received a report of a theft of two traffic cones. There are currently no suspects.
• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a notice of infraction for speeding 54 mph in a 40 mph zone.
• A deputy on San Juan had contact with a female who appeared to be in a mental health crisis. After hours of trying to make a safety plan with the female, it was determined by Compass Health to issue an involuntary pickup order. The female went to the hospital without incident. A report was completed.
• An Orcas deputy responded to a request for an area check. A resident heard sounds of someone screaming. The deputy was unable to locate anyone in the area. Additional patrols will be performed in that area.
• A deputy on San Juan received a report of malicious mischief. This case is still under investigation.
