The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

March 8

• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of a public park bench that was moved approximately 300 feet. A park volunteer moved it back to its original place. The bench was undamaged.

March 9

• On San Juan, a deputy received a Failure to Redeem packet from a local tow company. The registered owner failed to redeem a vehicle that had been impounded. The registered owner received a citation for littering/abandoned vehicle.

• A San Juan deputy took a report of a hit-and-run collision. A driver left the road, struck a mailbox, and fled the area without leaving their contact information at the scene. Deputies learned of video surveillance footage of the area and are working to identify the suspect.

• A deputy on San Juan received a report of an order violation. The case was sent to the prosecutor’s office for review.

• On San Juan, a deputy received a found item and entered it into evidence after attempts to contact the owner failed.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 60 MPH in a posted 45 MPH zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding and received warnings for other violations.

• On San Juan, a deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle and issued them a speeding citation for traveling 57 MPH in a posted 45 MPH speed zone.

• On Orcas, a deputy responded to a report of a possible drunk driver that had struck another vehicle and fled the scene. Further investigation revealed probable cause to believe the driver had committed crimes of reckless driving and hit-and-run on an unattended vehicle. The driver was cited.

March 10

• A deputy responded to a report of a dog-at-large on San Juan. The deputy checked the area and spoke with the person who called.

• Deputies on San Juan were dispatched to an agency assist at the hospital.

March 11

• An Orcas deputy observed a truck towing a travel trailer abandoned on the side of Orcas Road. The owner has done this in the past and has also left it on private property without permission. This is an ongoing issue that is being addressed.

• Lopez deputies conducted a traffic stop on a driver who had a suspended license. The driver was arrested and booked into jail for driving with a suspended license and operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock device.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a local music venue during a rock concert following a 911 hang-up call. The deputy found no emergency, as it was likely a pocket dial from someone rocking out too hard.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a runaway juvenile from Orcas. Two juveniles had lied to their guardians about where they were staying and were transported back to Orcas via a Sheriff’s Office patrol boat.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a single-vehicle accident and took the driver in custody for driving under the influence.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 63 MPH in a posted 45 MPH speed zone. The driver was issued a citation for speed.

March 12

• On San Juan, a deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for expired registration and failure to transfer the title. The driver was arrested and booked into jail for driving under the influence and for a minor in possession of alcohol.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a suspicious call near Rosario. The reporting party was advised to call dispatch immediately if the suspicious circumstance happened again.

• A complaint of odors coming through the walls from a neighboring office in Friday Harbor was referred to the Town of Friday Harbor for possible civil action.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle and issued them a citation for traveling 42 MPH in a posted 25 MPH speed zone.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a suspicious circumstance call. The complaint was determined to be unfounded.

• Deputies responded to a welfare check in Friday Harbor. An individual went for a walk and their phone was turned off. It was believed that they might be at a hotel in Friday Harbor. Deputies were unable to locate the individual that evening and would continue efforts in the morning.

March 13

• In Friday Harbor, deputies responded to a domestic incident. After an investigation, it was determined that no crime had been committed.

• Found property on San Juan was turned into the sheriff’s office.

• An Orcas deputy was contacted by a citizen requesting a subject be trespassed from his property. A trespass warning letter was completed, and an attempt was made to locate and serve the suspect.

• An Orcas deputy responded to the public library who had requested a person to be trespassed from the facility.

• A Friday Harbor woman reported a violation of an anti-harassment order by her neighbor. The investigation continues.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to the Friday Harbor High School because of a reported incident. An investigation is ongoing.

• A deputy on San Juan Island responded to an anonymous individual’s report of people sleeping in their broken-down vehicle in a parking lot. The deputy arrived on the scene and helped the couple push their vehicle to street parking, out of the parking lot, to wait for a tow.

March 14

• An Orcas deputy responded to a parking problem at the Orcas Park & Ride. The vehicles’ registrations were run, and an attempt to contact the registered owners was completed. Public Works was notified of the problem.
