The San Juan Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls:
Oct. 12
A Lopez deputy was dispatched to the medical center referencing minor damage to a vehicle. A Navy helicopter was performing a practice exercise and stirred up gravel which broke the rear window of an EMT’s personal vehicle.
A Lopez deputy was dispatched for a welfare check on a screaming male subject. The subject was contacted and found not to be an imminent danger to himself or others.
An Orcas driver was stopped for cell phone use, and was cited for having expired vehicle registration and no proof of insurance.
An Orcas deputy stopped a driver for driving 40 mph in a posted 25 mph. The driver was cited for having no proof of auto insurance.
An Orcas deputy was dispatched to an Eastsound residence regarding a possible prescription medicine overdose. Orcas Island Fire and Rescue evaluated the victim and they were given medical attention.
Oct. 13
Friday Harbor High School personnel contacted the sheriff’s office to report a found item. The item was impounded for safekeeping.
A Lopez deputy was contacted about a subject sending unwanted emails. The
sender was contacted and asked to stop.
An Orcas deputy responded to an unattended death in Eastsound. An investigation was conducted.
A report was received of possible check fraud. An investigation revealed a series of simple mistakes that had occurred. No crime was committed.
A Lopez deputy responded to a report of a hit-and-run collision.
An Orcas deputy was dispatched to an Olga residence regarding a possible theft. The reporting person also reported alleged harassment, extortion and blackmail all by a family member. An informational report was taken at the request of the reporting party.
A dog was struck by vehicle on an Orcas road. The dog was taken by the owner to the Orcas Veterinary Services for emergency care.
Oct. 14
Orcas deputies responded to an assault in Eastsound. The incident was settled by contact.
Deputies responded to an overdose on the west side of San Juan Island. The male was transported to the hospital and found to be in violation of court ordered conditions prohibiting liquor consumption.
San Juan deputies were flagged down on Roche Harbor Road by a citizen claiming the driver of the vehicle behind him had road rage. Deputies watched as the vehicle continued the aggressive behavior. The driver was pulled over by deputies and arrested for driving under the influence.
Oct. 15
A Lopez deputy took a report of vandalism to a vehicle.
A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a single vehicle, non-injury collision in
Friday Harbor. The driver was cited for driving with a suspended license and no proof of insurance.
An Orcas deputy recognized a driver who had a suspended driver’s license. The driver was cited and released. The vehicle was impounded.
Lopez Island deputies responded to a Port Stanley Road residence to
investigate a domestic violence complaint. The involved persons were contacted
and there was insufficient evidence to determine the primary aggressor.
The involved persons were separated.
An Orcas deputy responded to an Eastsound business in reference to an unwanted
person. When deputies arrived, an investigation was completed and a report was written.
Oct. 16
A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a report of a subject who had passed away after a medical emergency. A death report was taken.
A Orcas deputy stopped a driver who had a suspended driver’s license. There was a child in the vehicle that was not wearing a seatbelt and the driver was issued infractions.
A deputy observed a vehicle violation on Mt. Baker road. The driver was cited for not having insurance and warned for not having their seatbelt on.
A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a report of poaching and unsafe firearm discharge. The suspect fled the area prior to the deputy’s arrival.
Oct. 17
A deputy was dispatched to the Eastsound area reference a possible vehicle prowl. The deputy conducted an investigation and a report was completed.
An Orcas deputy responded to a vehicle off the roadway. The driver was not at the scene. An investigation was conducted and a collision report was completed.
Two local residents got into a dispute at the Little Store in Friday Harbor. While passing each other in the entrance one or both parties were nudged and an argument ensued. The complaining party felt threatened and assaulted the other party. The complaining party was referred to district court.
The mother of a Friday Harbor resident contacted the sheriff’s office from Utah to perform a welfare check on her son who lives locally with his father. Deputies contacted the school and his father and found the child to be safe and well cared for.
A deputy was dispatched to an Eastsound location in reference to possible child abuse. The deputy completed an investigation.
Orcas deputies and Orcas Island Fire and Rescue were dispatched to a vehicle roll-over with unknown injuries. A sole occupant was extricated from the vehicle and flown off for medical evaluation.
An Orcas deputy responded to an unattended vehicle on Trailhead Road. The vehicle’s owner had carpooled into Eastsound.
A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a dog bite. A person reported that he was bit by a dog as he entered a restroom. The deputy talked to the owner of the dog about the incident.
Oct. 18
A deputy responded to a report of burglary that occurred on Orcas Island. An investigation was conducted and a report was written.
Oct. 20
A Lopez deputy investigated a report of possible reckless endangerment involving a child. The investigation is ongoing.
