The arctic storm that reached the region late last week brought more snow to San Juan Island early today — as well as a third consecutive late start for public schools.

San Juan Island public schools will start 1.5 hours late and buses will use snow routes today.

At 7:54 a.m., it was 34 degrees and light rain was falling at Friday Harbor Airport, with a wind of 9 mph from the east southeast.

The National Weather Service was forecasting breeze and snow today, with snow accumulation of 2 to 5 inches, highs in the upper 20s to mid 30s, and a south wind 15 to 25 mph becoming north around 10 mph this afternoon.

Tonight, expect a breeze and snow showers, with snow accumulation up to 1 inch and total snow accumulation of 2 to 6 inches. The overnight low is expected between 19 to 26 degrees, with a northeast wind of 15 to 25 mph.

Thursday, it should be very windy and mostly cloudy with a chance of snow showers, and highs in the 20s to lower 30s. The National Weather Service forecasts a northeast wind of 20 to 30 mph increasing to 30 to 40 mph in the afternoon. Gusts to 60 mph are possible.

Thursday night, it will be very windy and mostly cloudy, with lows between 14 to 21 and a northeast wind 30 to 40 mph, with gusts to 60 mph possible.

Friday, it will be windy and sunny, with highs in the 20s to lower 30s, a northeast wind of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph in the morning. Friday night, it will be partly cloudy with lows from 13 to 18.

Snow is possible Saturday night, Sunday and Monday.
