San Juan School Board meets Wednesday, 6 p.m.; Improvement plans top board’s agenda

Presentation of improvement plans for Friday Harbor’s elementary, middle and high school will top the agenda when the San Juan Island School Board meets Wednesday, beginning at 6 p.m., at the high school library.

The agenda also includes a discussion of feedback from the state Auditor’s office with regard to the school district’s most recent audit, Sept. 1, 2009 through Aug. 31, 2010, as well as a discussion involving the district’s long-range plan in light of anticipated cutbacks in state support.

The board is also expected to discuss a possible review of the 6th grade program to weigh how well that program is working since the elementary school became home to the 6th grade class about two years ago.

Public comment will be taken at the beginning of the meeting, according to the agenda.

The agenda also includes a discussion of improving communication with the community, slated to take place near the end of the meeting, as will a report from school board Chairman Boyd Pratt.
