San Juan Healthcare will host a Community Health Fair on March 27, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Mullis Community Senior Center.

The event is free and open to the public.

The event theme is “A Healthy Jump Into Spring,” and all ages are being encouraged to come and enjoy demonstrations, free health screenings, giveaways, healthy treats, and speakers.

“The idea of community Health Fairs has been around a long time,” organizer Joann Mayo says. “This one is my idea originally, however we are all very involved in it at San Juan Healthcare.”

Mayo hopes that the event will prove a successful “project for community education … to have the community know what medical and supportive health services are available.”

The fair is being made possible through a grant awarded by the Health Resources and Services Administration, a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

“This particular grant focuses on diabetes and heart health,” says Mayo, thus San Juan Healthcare’s booth will focus most on those two subjects.

However, there will also be a broad range of different organizations represented. Services and local healthcare providers will present a variety of health-related topics and information. Additionally, there will be a series of 14 talks by local practitioners covering everything from foot care to posture to depression management.
